Nabeel Shakeel Ahmed
I’m into lots of things – far too many for my own good, some say. The range of topics I blog about can attest to this – however, I’ve improved my focus lately. I am currently most interested in social finance and impact investing and the potential they hold for creating widespread positive social impact. I also remain intrigued with the intersection of government (not just politics) and media, primarily in Canada and Pakistan. On a more personal level, I’m a huge sports nut, focusing on football and cricket, and I’ve been an amateur photographer for years.
I like to focus on development and innovative solutions to old problems, and usually stay away from any topic that doesn’t achieve anything. Perhaps you can call me an optimistic realist – I refuse to get cynical and am usually engaged in conversations that promote a nuanced understanding and progress (or at least try to).
I am currently the Editor of SocialFinance.ca, while remaining engaged with policy research and other projects at Social Innovation Generation @ MaRS. I’m studying public policy and administration as a step towards working in the public service in the future. I am also the media manager of the Association for the Development of Pakistan, and am working on a project for the Tessellate Institute. As a result, unsurprisingly, blogging is on a hiatus.
My experience includes freelance writing, editing, social media management, primary and secondary research, Internet marketing, graphic design, event management, photography, film-making, sports, getting lost in three different continents, and falling flat on my face while running on an iced pavement.
In addition, I am a ‘citizen of the world’, having lived in several countries – resulting in an understanding of different cultures, tolerance, an appreciation of diversity, and a relatively high level of international exposure.
